NIL partnership scope: deliverables, usage and revisions
Clarify a proposed athlete brand campaign before agreeing to the work.
A useful NIL campaign scope explains exactly what will be made, where it will appear, who may reuse it and when each party must act. This is a planning checklist for discussion with the brand and your advisers, not a contract or a market-rate guide.
Put the work in writing
| Topic | Question to resolve |
|---|---|
| Deliverables | How many videos, photos, posts or appearances? What length and format? |
| Publishing | Your account, the brand’s account, or both? What dates and live period? |
| Approval | Who approves the concept and draft? How quickly must they respond? |
| Revisions | How many rounds? What counts as a reshoot or a new brief? |
| Usage | Which channels, countries and time period may the brand use the content? |
| Paid media | May the brand run ads using the content or your account identity? |
| Exclusivity | Which named competitors or categories are restricted, and for how long? |
| Payment | What amount, due date, invoicing process and cancellation terms apply? |
Why “one video” is not enough detail
Illustrative comparison: one edited vertical video delivered for organic use on a brand account is a different scope from filming, publishing to your audience, supplying raw footage and allowing a year of paid advertising. These differences should be explicit before the work begins. There is no universal price implied by either example.
Questions to ask before agreeing
- What product, service or event is this campaign promoting?
- What is the intended audience and single primary outcome?
- What claims must be included, and what evidence supports them?
- Will filming require school, venue or other people’s permission?
- What happens if an injury, travel change or competition schedule affects the date?
- Who handles tracking links and shares the resulting data?
Keep separate review lanes
Commercial agreement, school or governing-body requirements, endorsement disclosures and tax recordkeeping are different tasks. A brand’s approval does not settle the others. Before signing, bring the actual terms to the appropriate compliance contact and qualified adviser. See current official NIL resources.
Turn agreement into execution
Save the agreed scope alongside the brief, approvals, invoice and delivery evidence. Use the campaign planner for an initial brief; use the reporting template to define evidence before publishing.
